Neuland font was designed in 1923 by calligrapher and type designer, Rudolf Koch. Many calligraphic interpretations have been created using a square nib pen or marker. It's chunky style works well closely stacked and using large and small letters for scale and contrast.

Calligraphy tools for Neuland lettering: top, Pilot Parallel Pen, Zig Calligraphy marker which has two different sized points, an Automatic Pen which is great for using inks and watercolors, a handmade veneer pen (made with a dowel and thin veneer for pen nib, and a flat water brush. A Speedball C Series nib also works well as a calligraphy pen option. Most of these tools can be purchased at your local art store and through John Neal Booksellers and Paper and Ink Arts.

Two pencils tapped together to draw the letters. Brush in clear water then
drop in vibrant watercolor and let it bleed. Outline the letters with a fine tipped black marker.
